- Dan Kopman is a Professorial Lecturer in the Kogod School of Business at American University. Dan is a Senior Policy Advisor to the World Brewing Alliance. Dan is the former CEO of Heavy Seas Beer in Baltimore, USA. Dan began his career in brewing and hospitality at Young’s Brewery in London in 1983. Following additional training at Scottish & Newcastle Breweries, Dan worked at Young’s until 1991. Dan was Co-Founder and CEO of The Saint Louis Brewery, brewers of Schlafly Beer, from its opening in 1991 until 2017. During this time, the Brewery changed the beer culture in St. Louis. Dan was Chair of the Brewers Association Committee that led the US Federal Excise Tax reform effort starting in 2009 and as a member of the BA Board worked to forge a compromise that became the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act. The Act was signed into law in 2017. Dan also served as the Craft Brewer member of the Beer Institute Board.
