David Baratta serves as the Assistant Registrar for Degree Clearance and Record Services in the Office of the University Registrar, managing the coordinators responsible for transactions related to registration, credential clearance, academic records, and transcripts. Before that, David served as Senior Administrative Assistant (6 years) and Administrative Assistant (1 year) in the Department of Public Administration and Policy in the School of Public Affairs. During his time in DPAP, he won the 2015 School of Public Affairs Award for Outstanding Innovation for his development and implementation of a paperless process for submitting department funding requests and reimbursements. He also completed the AU Office of Sponsored Programs Research Administration Certification in May '16.
Before working at American University, David worked in the Department of Political Science and the public affairs office of the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University. He was also a summer intern at the Federal Student Aid office of the U.S. Department of Education.
While working at DPAP, David completed his JD at AU's Washington College of Law in 2016 focusing on courses related to transactional law and was a Senior Blogger for WCL's Health Law and Policy Brief. In 2009, David earned his BA in International Affairs and Political Science from the George Washington University where he was a starting defenseman on the club hockey team.
Outside of AU, David serves as a volunteer hockey coach. He lives in Southeast DC with his wife, Sara, and their two cats - Sherman & Archer.
