Bio
Caron Martinez taught academic writing at American University (AU) for eight years in the Writing Studies Program before being named Director of Business Communications for AU’s Kogod School of Business in July of 2016. She manages Kogod's peer-staffed Writing Center for undergraduate and graduate business students, collaborates with faculty across the business school to design curricula embedded with communication instruction (both verbal and written), and teaches business communications as part of the MBA program.

Caron has taught academic, professional, and creative writing at several universities in the DC area, worked in a number of managerial positions ranging from public relations firms to government agencies, and began her career as a Foreign Service Officer assigned to the US Embassies in Mexico City and Quito, Ecuador. She has worked since 2010 as a communications consultant to the FDIC, and pursues her own interests in creative writing by carving out time for her historical novel set in 1910, revolutionary Mexico.

As an active volunteer, Caron is passionate about global humanitarian service and is actively involved with Nyumbani.org, a non-profit dedicated to helping HIV/AIDS children in Kenya. She has traveled to Nicaragua to work with families living in extreme poverty and serves on the board of Love Light and Melody, a non-profit providing hope and education to these families. She also advises One World Education, a non-profit organization working to improve writing instruction in the D.C. public schools. Caron was privileged to be elected by fellow alumni of her alma mater, Williams College, to serve a five-year term from 2012 to 2017 on the college’s Board of Trustees.
