The 14th Workshop on the Economics of Risky Behavior offers researchers an opportunity to present and discuss the latest empirical findings on topics related to risky behaviors. The workshop fosters research that advances our understanding of the causes and consequences of risky behaviors, such as crime, substance abuse, and other health-compromising actions, as well as the effectiveness of policies aimed at reducing these behaviors and their associated costs.

We invite submissions on a wide range of topics, including (but not limited to):

  • Crime and delinquency
  • Substance abuse (e.g., alcohol, tobacco, drugs)
  • Risky sexual behavior
  • Gambling
  • Risky driving behavior
  • Unhealthy dietary habits
  • Excessive use of social media or technology
  • Mental health challenges related to risky behavior
  • Other actions with health or social risks

The workshop is sponsored by the School of Public Affairs at American University and is organized by Erdal Tekin in collaboration with a local partner, with the venue rotating to a new location each year. The 14th workshop will be held in Madrid, Spain, in partnership with Eugenio Zucchelli and with the support of the Ramón Areces Foundation.

Partial financial support may be available for participants in need. Applicants requiring funding should indicate this in their submission through the application portal.
