What was the most valuable thing you learned from WeLead?
The most valuable thing I learned from WeLead is to not count myself out. There are others who will do that, so I should be the first one to champion myself and count me in. That notion became even more clear when fellow WeLead Class of 2012 Alumna Lauren Underwood declared during our class that she was running for Congress, and then we watched her win not once, but twice! Underwood never counted herself out and she reinforced my main take-away from WeLead.

What was your favorite part of the program?
My favorite part of the program was the breakouts and getting to meet some incredible women who had a passion and care for us. The panels were informative and those moments really added value to what I was learning and taking away.

What advice would you give to the current WeLead class?
Dream big!

Any other thoughts on your WeLead experience?
WeLead has been one of the best experiences that I participated in. I continue to enjoy being connected to the program through the newsletters and other updates.

At Teaching for Change, Ceran works with schools, teachers and students to re-think the world inside and outside their classrooms, build a more equitable, multicultural society, and become active global citizens. She previously worked at American University for over a decade, where she earned both a Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in Political Science. Ceran has extensive experience in academic administration and DEI work.
