You are here: American University Student Affairs March 11 COVID-19 Update

American University

March 11, 2020

Dear AU Community,

American University is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation in order to best support our community, including students who are studying abroad, and make decisions about university programs. Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic. President Donald Trump announced the U.S. will be suspending all travel between Europe to the United States for the next 30 days, effective Friday, March 13 at midnight. Based on these developments, all AU study abroad programs worldwide are canceled effective immediately, and all students are being instructed to return to their permanent address immediately. Students are not to return to campus. The university will work with these students on academic arrangements, travel, and financial matters.

All faculty and staff who may be traveling on official university business should cancel their plans and return immediately.

AU students, faculty, and staff who may be traveling in Europe on personal matters may also be affected by these travel restrictions.

AU Abroad and academic programs will be providing additional information, but given the impact of this development, we wanted to inform our community as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Dan Myers
Provost
