Clinical Program

Pre/Co-Requisites

All clinics require applicants to have successfully completed the required first-year curriculum. Part-time students who have successfully completed the required part-time second-year curriculum are eligible to apply, but may be required to satisfy additional criteria for a specific clinic.

Civil Advocacy Clinic

  • Evidence is a pre- or co-requisite.
  • Preference will be given to students who have completed Evidence before enrolling in clinic.

Community Economic & Equity Development Clinic 

ONE of the following courses is a pre- or co-requisite:

  • Business Associations OR
  • Law of Nonprofit Organizations.

Criminal Justice Clinic

  • Rising 3L or 4L students in CJC (Defense and Prosecution) must complete Criminal Procedure and Evidence before the start of their 3L year.
  • Rising 2L students in CJC must complete Criminal Procedure and Evidence either before or during their CJC semester.

Disability Rights Law Clinic

Evidence is a pre- or co-requisite. Law and Disability is recommended, but not required.

Entrepreneurship LAW Clinic

Business Associations is a pre- or co-requisite.

Gender Justice Clinic

Evidence is a highly recommended course.

Glushko-Samuelson Intellectual Property Law Clinic

  • Evidence is a preferred pre- or co-requisite, but is not required.
  • Any Intellectual Property Law course is a pre-requisite. Rising 2L applicants who were unable to enroll in the 1L Intellectual Property Law elective must communicate with Professors Victoria Phillips (vfphillips@wcl.american.edu) and/or Tracie Siddiqui (tracie@wcl.american.edu) prior to March 4, 2024 to be considered.

Immigrant Justice Clinic

No pre- or co-requisites.

International Human Rights Law Clinic

  • Evidence is recommended/preferred.
  • Any human rights, international law, immigration law or asylum law course is a pre-requisite or a co-requisite in the fall.

Janet R. Spragens Federal Tax Clinic

No pre- or co-requisites.

Re-Entry Clinic

Evidence and Legal Ethics are preferred pre-requisites, but not required.
