Michael Gan practices labor and employment law and is the managing partner of Peer, Gan & Gisler, and LLP in Washington, DC. Michael began his career as an appellate lawyer in the National Labor Relations Board’s Division of Enforcement Litigation, where he argued cases in all but two of the U.S. Courts of Appeals.

Since 1993, Michael has represented labor unions and employees in collective bargaining, arbitration, federal court litigation, and before a variety of administrative agencies, including the National Labor Relations Board, Federal Labor Relations Authority, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and Occupational Safety & Health Review Commission.  He is General Counsel to the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, which represents 130,000 active and retired Postal Service employees.  Michael also represents members of the clergy in employment contract negotiations with their religious institutions.

Michael frequently speaks at labor union conferences and union steward training programs. He has written extensively on employee privacy matters, the gender pay gap, and legal issues for clergy.  Michael is a founding board member of the Ray Corollary Initiative, which strives to increase the diversity, equity, and inclusion in the selection of arbitrators, mediators, and other alternative dispute resolution neutrals.  He is also a member of the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance and has previously served on the Board of Advisors to the Bureau of National Affairs’ publication, Collective Bargaining Negotiations and Contracts.

Professor Gan received his JD from the Boston University School of Law and his BA, with distinction, from the University of Michigan.  He lives in Maryland with his spouse, Jody Gan, who teaches undergraduates public health at American.
