Bio

Mikel Mancisidor is a Law Graduate and Doctor in International Relations. He is currently serving as Vice-Chair of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR), of which he has been a member since 2013. His mandate for the Committee was recently renewed for a second 4 year term, ending in 2020.


He is a visiting professor at the University of Deusto and has taught university courses and training programs for diplomats, judges and magistrates, civil servants and students around the world. Professor Mancisidor was previously the Director of the UNESCO Center for the Basque country for 10 years (2004-2014) and also worked for several NGOs.


His main areas of interest are International Human Rights Law, Civil Diplomacy, Human Right to Education, Cultural Rights, and Science, Technology and Human Rights. He was appointed as Rapporteur for a new CESCR General Observation on the Right to Science.


He has written several publications on human rights and is a frequent columnist for four regional Spanish newspapers on international politics.
