Sustainability Leadership

The Office of Sustainability staff rely on partnerships and collaboration across the campus to achieve American University’s sustainability goals. These groups are key to sustainability progress across campus.

The Sustainability Advisory Group

The Sustainability Advisory Group includes staff, faculty, and students. They are responsible for reviewing sustainability progress, supporting implementation of the Sustainability Plan, and reviewing and supporting sustainability policies. Group members also work to forge sustainability ties across campus and elevate sustainability in campus discussions. Members are also asked to participate in or support working groups focused on specific sustainability efforts.  

Working Group

Sustainability Working Groups are formed as needed to address specific sustainability challenges. Staff, faculty, and students are invited to join to help shape programs and other efforts. Current groups include: 

  • Offsets Oversight 

  • Single-Use Plastics Reduction 

  • GHG Review and Strategy 

Sustainability Council

Starting in Fall 2024, all members of the university community will be invited to volunteer for the sustainability council which will focus on engaging the AU community in sustainability efforts and expanding sustainability literacy. Check back for more information.
