"Official Portraits of French and American Presidents: 1958 - 2018", a talk by Vanessa Badré
February 25th, 2019 in MGC 200
Art Historian Vanessa Badré will discuss the history behind presidential portraiture. After a close look at a number of official portraits of French presidents, she will help answer some critical questions such as: What do these portraits have to tell us about the French constitution, democracy and the relationship with power? How do they mirror the evolution of society? What can we learn when we look at them alongside similar portraits of American presidents?
