Spring 2023 Opening Reception at the AU Museum on February 4th
Opening on February 4, the AU Museum will be unveiling five new contemporary art exhibitions spanning topics from World War II photojournalism to Aboriginal Australian art. Join us for light refreshments (while they last!) at our opening reception from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. Learn more here!
Madayin: Eight Decades of Aboriginal Australian Bark Painting from Yirrkala: Madayin makes history as the largest display of Aboriginal Australian art in the Western Hemisphere in 30 years and the first exhibition of Aboriginal Australian bark painting in the United States. Listed by The New York Times as one of 90 exhibitions to see this season the painting designs represent the kinship and interconnectedness between people, plants, animals, water, and the ancestral land itself.
Eastern Front – Western Front: World War II Photojournalism by Georgi Zelma and Constance Stuart Larrabee: A history of combat photography and photojournalism by Russian Jewish photographer Georgi Zelma and British female war correspondent Constance Larrabee during World War II, with little-known views into the battles and aftermath of the European theater of war.
The Trawick Prize: 20th Anniversary Emerald Award: Celebrating the 20th year of the Trawick Prize, this exhibition displays select work of winning artists from past competitions.
The Barlow Gilotty Collection: The culmination of over 30 years of art collection by Washington, DC, couple Philip Barlow and Lisa Gilotty – two government employees on a budget who celebrate the connection between collector, artist, and community.
Gail Rebhan: About Time: Gail Rebhan’s first museum retrospective explores the inescapable themes of aging and change captured in over four decades of photography.
