Dear AU Community,

We are excited to welcome the internationally celebrated Chef Bal Arneson to campus on Tuesday, April 9 for a day of special events for the community. The AU community is welcome to the following:

  • Lunchtime TDR Takeover. Meal plan holders are invited to join us from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in the temporary TDR on the first floor of Mary Graydon Center for a complete Chef Arneson-inspired takeover of our menus.
  • Teaching Kitchen. Chef Arneson will be in action from 12:30 - 1:15 p.m. in the Mary Graydon Center (MGC), where she’ll host a teaching kitchen. All are invited to join.
  • Dinnertime TDR Takeover. Meal plan holders are invited to join us from 5 – 7 p.m. in the temporary TDR on the first floor of Mary Graydon Center for a complete Chef Arneson inspired takeover of our menus.

To ensure that these events benefit and support our entire community, five percent of all sales during the day at our venues – cash, credit, and Eaglebucks – will be donated to food insecurity initiatives on campus by our Chartwells partners and the Dining Program. In addition, all meal swipes in TDR during the events will be matched by the Dining Program and Chartwells and proceeds donated to the Eagles Helping Eagles program.

Chef Arneson is an international TV host, award winning and national bestselling author, and TEDx speaker. She hosted 2 TV shows which aired globally, Food Network Canada’s Spice Goddess which was nominated for a James Beard Award, and US Cooking Channel’s Spice of Life. Chef Arneson has been a judge on Iron Chef America, Bobby Flay’s Dinner Battle, and Cooking with Fire and has three national best-selling cookbooks: Everyday Indian and Bal’s Quick and Healthy Indian, which won the Asian Cuisine category prize for Canada by the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, and Bal’s Spice Kitchen. Her Hollywood collaborations include The Hundred Foot Journey by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey, and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Chef Arneson has launched her cooking shows on a media tour through Asia, walked on Oprah’s Red Carpet in New York, and highlighted Indian cuisine for an event hosted by the King of Sharjah in the UAE.

These special events are coming to campus thanks to partnerships between the Dining Program, Chartwells Higher Education, and the Division of Student Affairs.

We hope you can join us on April 9 for some great food, culinary learning, and community fun!
