Connecting to the eagle-secure Wireless Network
What is Eagle-Secure?
The eagle-secure wireless network is available all over main campus, plus the east campus and other off-campus buildings.
eagle-secure uses the Wi-Fi 5/6 standard with an average of 150 megabit per second throughput. The wireless architecture also takes advantage of an industry best practice distributed platform to greatly reduce the risk of large scale system failure.
- Please note that the Washington College of Law offers a separate wireless service on the WCL campus.
- AU guests can use the AUGuest-byRCN wireless network for Internet access.
If you have any questions about the wireless network or need assistance connecting, please contact the IT Help Desk at 202-885-2550, helpdesk@american.edu, or via help.american.edu.
Protecting Your Connection
Always check for the gold lock or "https" in the address field, before transmitting your password or PIN over the network.
You can also use AU's Virtual Private Network (VPN) service to add an additional layer of security, if using a wireless network.
When using the eagle-secure network, remember you must comply with AU's Computer Use and Copyright Policy and the other Information Technology Security Policies.
Connecting to AU's Eagle-Secure Wireless Network
To show you how to connect your computer or device to the eagle-secure wireless network from on campus, we have prepared a series of detailed instructions for each operating system:
Devices Not Supported on Network
AU's wireless infrastructure is an enterprise class network. As such, it is not configured to support certain kinds of personal wireless devices, such as: Chromecasts, wireless routers, wireless printers (except cloud-based printing), Apple Time Capsule, and other peer-to-peer devices.
Please note: Access to the eagle-secure network is restricted to AU faculty, staff, and students. Those who wish to log on to the wireless network will need to use their AU userID and password.
