Conditions of Payment

SSAs must be degree-seeking undergraduate students who are rising juniors or seniors registered for Fall 2024 classes.

SSAs and their mentors should be aware that their payments are taxable.

All Scholars will be expected to publicly present their completed work at the Summer Scholars and Artists Research Symposium sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Education on September 26, 2024. Scholars are also strongly encouraged to present their work at additional conferences on or off campus.

SSAs will be required to provide a summary of their project to the Dean of Undergraduate Education by the end of the calendar year. Faculty mentors are required to write a paragraph describing their role and expectations in mentoring the scholar. The summary should include the following:

  • Summary of the research conducted under the auspices of the program
  • Statement of proposed next steps in the research project (including plans for future coursework, independent research, presentations, or publication)
  • Faculty Statement
  • A full accounting of how the funds were spent with receipts as appropriate

Should any events prevent SSAs or mentors from starting or completing the project, both the Scholar and the faculty mentor must return the funds to the university.

Payment will be disbursed by May 31, 2024.
