Outside Scholarship Resources for Military-connected Students 

  • The AMVET National Scholarship Program is designed for those veterans who have exhausted the resources of the G.I. Bill. Additionally, the scholarship aids National Guard/Reserve as well as spouses and dependents. Applicants must have been honorably discharged and attend an accredited college, college, university or technical school. The award is $1000 per academic year, renewable for up to three years. Reopens: Renews January 15th - April 30th annually. 

  • The Dr.Aurelio M.Caccomo Memorial Scholarship is in memory of and honor of Dr. Aurelio M. Caccomo. Dr. Auerlio enlisted in the Army Reserves where he would acquire the rank of Colonel and serve in Special Forces. Applicants must be Veterans or members of the National Guard/Reserves and must have a high school diploma or GED. Additionally, applicants agree to AMVETS to publicize your scholarship award if you are selected. The award amount is $12,000 of two scholarships that are awarded annually. Deadline: Renews January 15th - April 30th annually. 

  • Google SVA Scholarship As part of Google’s commitment to military veterans, the company partners with SVA each year to fund scholarships. The scholarship aids student veterans who are pursuing university degrees in the field of computer science in the U.S. Selected students will receive $10,000 for the upcoming school year. Deadline: No specified deadline. Possibly reopens every academic year.

  • The VFW's "Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship" provides service members and veterans with the financial assistance they need to complete their educational goals without incurring excessive student loan debt. It’s just another way for us to say “thank you” to those who fought for our freedoms. Deadline: Applications for the fall semester will be accepted Jan. 1 through April 30. Applications for the spring semester will be accepted Aug. 1 through Nov. 15 

  • AVECO is proud to announce the AVECO Scholarship Program beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year. The program was created to provide assistance covering educational expenses for veterans, services members their spouses. All awards are contingent on annual AVECO board approval of program funding allocations. Deadline: Opens February 27th– April 28th) 

  • The Pat Tillman Foundation offers the Leadership Through Action – Tilman Military Scholars program which provides financial assistance to veterans and active-duty military who wish to start, continue, or finish their college education. Award amounts vary, and eligibility is determined by merit as well as financial need. Applicants are required to maintain a 3.0 GPA and must submit two essays for consideration. Deadline: Opens February 2024) 

  • The Army Women’s Foundation (AWF) recognizes the importance of education and the role it plays in personal, professional, and economic fulfillment. The Army Women’s Foundation Legacy Scholarship Program provides grants to women soldiers, past and present, and their lineal descendants to help them attain their educational goals. The AWF Legacy Scholarship Program offers financial support in four areas: Certificate Programs, Community College coursework, Undergraduate Degrees, and Graduate Degrees. Scholarships are awarded only for coursework from accredited institutions. Scholarships are based on merit, academic potential, personal essay, community service, letters of recommendation, and financial need. Deadline: (January 21, 2023) 

  • The Raytheon Missiles & Defense SPY-6 Scholarship, named for the U.S. Navy’s SPY-6 Family of Radars, provides returning sailors an opportunity to achieve educational goals and position themselves for success in civilian professions. Two $10,000 scholarships will be awarded to sailors who pursue an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited university and demonstrate leadership in their local community. Deadline: Anticipating opening between April 8th - April 30th, 2024.

  • Through these Air and Space Forces Association scholarships, caring organizations and individuals help students pursue their dreams of higher education with generous grants. These programs exemplify the lifelong bond of Airmen and the commitment of our supporting community. AFA is proud to present this year’s scholarship recipients and highlight all of their contributions toward furthering the AFA, and Air and Space Force missions. Deadline: Opens December 1st- April 30th 

  • The Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) Scholarship Foundation was established to render financial assistance for the college-level education of members of the Army Aviation Association of America, Inc. Can only hold one AAAA scholarship at a time. Merit-based scholarships vary from $1,000 to $12,000, judged off of academics, leadership, volunteer service, work experience, and essay responses. Deadline: Opens September 1st  

  • Imagine America’s Military Award Program (MAP) was established to provide $1,000 scholarships for active-duty military personnel,  reservists, honorably discharged military veterans, and retired veterans of the U.S. armed forces who have decided to pursue career college training. Deadline: ANNUAL OPEN YEAR ROUND 

  • The Military Order of the Purple Heart Scholarship is available to all veterans who have been awarded the Purple Heart. The program is also open to widows and dependents of those service-members who have been awarded the Purple Heart posthumously. Award amounts vary and are based on financial need. Deadline: No longer accepting applications for 2023.  

  • Mrs. Patty Shinseki Spouse Scholarship Program The Mrs. Patty Shinseki Spouse Scholarship Program is a need-based scholarship program established to assist Army spouses in obtaining an undergraduate degree or similar professional certification. The program was named after Mrs. Shinseki in December 2019. Mrs. Shinseki, an Army spouse for over 50 years, is a strong supporter of military spouse education and other military family programs. Applicants may receive assistance for up to four academic years of full-time study or eight academic years of part-time study. Applicants must re-apply each year. Spouses may apply year-round.

  • The Maj. Gen. James Ursano Scholarship Program for Army Children is based on applicants’ financial needs and was established to assist children of Soldiers in obtaining their first undergraduate degrees. Applicants may receive assistance for up to four academic years but must meet eligibility criteria and reapply each year. Deadline: Anticipated application cycle runs from Jan. 1 through April 1, 2024.

  •  AMVETS National Service Foundation is proud to offer scholarships to our nation’s Veterans, Active Duty, Guard and Reserves, their Spouses as well as their Children and Grandchildren. AMVETS scholarship are designed to fulfill a financial gap after all Federal/State educational grants or scholarship eligible to applicant has been utilized and all means has been exhausted. Applicants must meet all the eligibility requirements, gather the required documents, and complete the online application in its entirety. Deadline: Anticipating opening between January 15th - April 30th annually

  • The American Legion Legacy Scholarship. American Legion’s Legacy Scholarship provides college funding to children of post-9/11 veterans who died on active duty or those who have a combined VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater. Deadline: Apply January 1st to April 1st. 

  • The Heroes’ Legacy Scholarship The program is open to their dependent unmarried children under age 23. A disability is defined as one that results in the service member being eligible for, and receiving, Traumatic Service members' Group Life Insurance (TSGLI) or a permanent and total disability compensation rating of 100%. Deadline: Online application for the 2024-2025 Academic year will open in mid-December 2023. 

  • The Fisher House Foundation awards several Scholarships for Military  Children for up to $2,000 apiece to unmarried sons and daughters of active duty, reserve/guard, or retired military commissary customers who will be enrolled full-time in a four-year undergraduate degree program. Deadline: Online application for the 2024-2025 Academic year will open in mid-December 2023. 

  • Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation  scholarship is for students pursuing bachelor's, associate, or certificate degree that is longer than 12 months. Able to be renewed using the same application. Deadline: January 1 – Application opens, March 1 – Application deadline, May 31 Award decisions e-mailed to student, August 1 – First batch of scholarship payments sent to schools (subsequent batches sent approximately twice a month) November 1 – Award Acceptance deadline December/January – Transfer paperwork due (if applicable) 

  • Fallen Patriots the mission is to provide college scholarships and educational counseling to the children of military personnel who have passed away in the line of duty. The goal and purpose is to bridge the gap in funding between available sources of grants and scholarships (i.e., VA Chapter 33 or 35, federal, state, local and private grants) and the total cost of college. There is no cap on funding for students. Students must maintain a 2.0 or better term GPA in order to be eligible for funding in the following semester. If a student falls below the 2.0 requirement they will not be able to receive funding until their term GPA is brought back up to a 2.0 or better. FP can reimburse tuition and fees paid out of pocket during terms where the student had a non-compliant GPA but living expenses cannot be reimbursed or retroactively granted. Deadline: Open year round, applications are processed monthly! 

  • The Wings Over America Scholarship Foundation is sponsoring over  50 scholarships to provide college scholarships to dependent children and spouses of all US Navy personnel - officer and enlisted - active duty, retired, honorably discharged or deceased who served within  Naval Air Forces. Most scholarships are $4,600 and some are renewable. Scholarships can only be used for tuition charged by the college. Deadline: October 1st Pre-Qualification Opens February 1st Deadline for Pre-Qualification Submission March 1st Deadline for Application Submission. 

  • The Folds of Honor scholarship provides educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members.  Scholarships are awarded up to $5,000. The Award amount is based on the “unmet need” calculated on the Financial Need page of the application. Can be renewed annually. Deadline: Application Window Opens Feb 1st, 2024 

  • Society of Daughters of the United States Army Scholarship Annual Scholarship Awards are one year, renewable merit-based awards in the amount of $1,500. Applicants are judged on academics, community involvement, and leadership potential. The number of scholarships per year are determined by the number of eligible applicants. Additional essay and application required. Deadline: CLOSED ANNUAL Application OPENS 1/1/24 

  • The Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) Scholarship Foundation was established to render financial assistance for the college-level education of members of the Army Aviation Association of America, Inc. Can only hold one AAAA scholarship at a time. Merit-based scholarships vary from $1,000 to $12,000, judged off of academics, leadership, volunteer service, work experience, and essay responses. Deadline: ANNUAL CLOSED 9/1 – 12/15 

  • The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Education Assistance Program offers interest-free loans and grants for undergraduate/post-secondary education at an accredited 2- or 4-year education, technical or vocational institution in the United  States. This financial assistance is available for children of active duty, retired or deceased Sailors and Marines, and for spouses of active duty and retired Sailors and Marines. Interest-free loans and grants range from $500 to $3,000 per academic year. Renewable. Deadline: No specific date 

  • National Military Family Association - Military Spouse Scholarships awards can be used for a variety of educational and employment pursuits. Scholarship funds on average are $1,000 and can be used towards degrees, certifications, licensure, clinical supervision for mental health licensure, CEUs, business expenses and more. Deadline: OPEN YEAR ROUND

  • AFCEA War Veterans Scholarships (Undergraduate Only) Merit-based scholarships of varying amounts will be awarded to persons on active duty in the uniformed military services and to honorably discharged U.S. military veterans (including Reservists and National Guard personnel) who are currently enrolled and attending class's part time or full time in an eligible degree program at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States. Deadline: Application reopens October 1st, 2023!
