Inclusive Excellence Student Advisory Council
The Inclusive Excellence Student Advisory Council (IESAC) is a student advisory committee that advises on issues related to inclusive excellence to the Office of Inclusive Excellence. This council serves as a channel for student voices to be heard directly by the Vice President of Inclusive Excellence and other leaders within OIE to advocate for inclusive practices at American University.
Advisory Role
IESACs advise university leadership on matters related to inclusive excellence.
Student Voice
Serve as a bridge between the student body and OIE, ensuring that student perspectives are considered in decision-making.
Advocacy
IESACs may advocate policies, practices, or campus climate changes to promote a more inclusive environment.

Interested in Applying?
Students are appointed annually; service begins August 2026 and ends May 2027. Meetings are held once per month. Applications are due by May 4th, 11:59 PM.
Application Requirements: Please send a one-page statement of interest directly to [email protected]. Label your statement as “First Name, Last Name. SOI for IE Advisory Council.” Include your full name, major, school, and year.
The letter should address the following:
- Your motivation for serving on the council
- Any student leadership roles you have held at American University or elsewhere
- Your career aspirations
- Your understanding of Inclusive Excellence
- The unique perspectives or contributions you hope to bring to the IE Student Advisory Council
